Starting at age nine, Janet played six years of club volleyball in the NCVA, competing for Tandem, SF Tremors, Paye’s Performance, and eventually Red Rock 15-1 in their first year as a club in 2013. In her final four seasons as a club player, her teams qualified for every USAV Junior Nationals in the highest divisions of each respective age group from 12U through 15U. Janet attended Lowell High School, competing for their varsity team as a starting outside hitter. Her varsity team secured four consecutive city championships in the San Francisco section from 2012 to 2015.

Beginning her sophomore year of high school, Janet coached numerous teams at her alma mater Holy Name School and in CYO Summer Leagues. Upon her graduation from UC Irvine, Janet returned to SF Tremors to head coach the 11-1 and 12-1 girls teams from 2019 to 2022. Her 11-1 team qualified and competed at the USAV Junior Nationals in 2021. In that same year, Janet was brought onto the Lowell High School coaching staff as an assistant coach to support the girls varsity team for their fall season. Soon thereafter, Janet assisted the Lowell boys varsity team and has continued to coach them over the past three years. Lowell’s 2022 boys varsity team placed second overall in the CIF Division IV NorCal Championships. Out of four high school seasons, her varsity teams have won all four city championships. Most recently, Janet assisted a Slainte 16-2 boys team, who placed fifth at the USAV Junior Nationals in the 16 Club division.

From volunteering to train elementary school students to mentoring high school varsity players, Janet is a passionate educator who has coached hundreds of athletes since 2013. In her spare time, Janet enjoys spending time with her family, playing volleyball with her former Genentech colleagues, perfecting her manicures, and making spontaneous travel plans to surprise her international friends.

Bryant Zhu

Red Rock Girls 14-1

Bryant was born and raised in San Francisco. Throughout his volleyball career, Bryant has played, managed, and coached in various capacities. He first played for Slainte Volleyball Club and then competed for Lowell High School’s varsity team as their starting setter and was named captain of the team for his last two years. His varsity team was able to secure a second place finish in the CIFSF Section while at the same time, Bryant was nominated as an Honorable Mention Team player.

Besides just playing on varsity at Lowell, Bryant also contributed to the girls program by managing, in which he helped the 2019 Lowell Girls Varsity Team win the California Division 3 State Championship. During this time, Bryant also coached at SF Elite’s Future Elite Program which was aimed at introducing volleyball and teaching the fundamental skills of the sport to beginners. After recently graduating from UCLA with a degree in chemistry, Bryant returned to Lowell High School to assist his former varsity team for the 2023-2024 season where they were able to win the CIFSF Section title. While this will be his first year coaching club, Bryant is excited for the opportunity to work with Red Rock and to grow the sport by inspiring others to be just as or even more passionate about the sport than he is.

When he is not coaching, Bryant is either at work in Sunnyvale, watching a good show or movie, or going to open gyms to play volleyball.

Alise Reid

Red Rock Girls 15-1

I am originally from San Diego and moved to the bay area 3 years ago after graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology. I currently work at an environmental laboratory as an Operations Manager overseeing microscopy machinery and geological analysts.

I’ve played volleyball for the past 11 years, from middle school to present time. In college I played for UC Santa Barbara’s club A-team in SCCVL Division I as a middle hitter 2016-2020. Our team peaked in national rankings at #5 in 2018. I am currently head coach of the 12-1’s at Breakwater VBC in Half Moon Bay and will be joining Red Rock’s San Francisco beach program. I love coaching young girls who have a passion for volleyball and aim to give them guidance they can carry throughout their volleyball career.

I now play indoor for fun as middle & outside hitter. In my free time I love thrifting & fashion and playing with my cat, Sookie.

Mia Hogan

Red Rock Girls 15-1

Mia has been immersed in volleyball since the 6th grade and is thrilled to share her passion with young athletes. This upcoming season marks her second year coaching volleyball and her debut at Red Rock.

Growing up in the Bay Area, Mia played for her middle school, high school, and select volleyball clubs, including Red Rock! After seven years of competitive club volleyball, Mia was recruited as an outside hitter for Wesleyan University. She played a crucial role in guiding the team to its first NCAA Regional Championship and NCAA Elite 8 Tournament appearance, and she earned a spot on the NESCAC All-Conference team.

Today, Mia remains active in volleyball, playing grass, beach, and indoor, and is excited to be a part of San Francisco's first women's VLA team.

Mia emphasizes ball control and court awareness in her playing and coaching. She believes that mastering these fundamentals builds confidence and versatility on the court. As she steps into her coaching role at Red Rock, Mia is eager to help players develop these essential skills and thrive both individually and as a team.
